Postdoctoral Position
The National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) in Golden, Colorado, is the nation's primary federal laboratory for research, development, and deployment of renewable energy and energy efficiency technologies. We have a multiyear research position available to study the biochemical and cellular mechanism of bacterial cell death caused by oxidative damages from reactive oxygen species. Responsibilities include research for understanding how reactive oxygen species interact with cell surface and intracellular components, how bacterial surface interacts with the environment and with other surfaces, and how to improve microbial immobilization process. Institutional Biosafety Officer
West Virginia University (WVU), a land-grant, Carnegie Division I Research University with multiple campuses, is seeking an Institutional Biosafety Officer (BSO). This is an upper-level administrative position reporting to the Associate Vice President for Health Sciences. Minimum requirements for the position include a Masters Degree in Microbiology, Biochemistry, or Molecular Biology and relevant experience in the area of biosafety. The applicant should have excellent communication skills and the ability to work with faculty, research personnel, students, maintenance workers, and governmental agencies. A working knowledge of applicable regulatory standards is desirable. The successful applicant will help to oversee research involving biohazardous materials and recombinant DNA at WVU. The BSO will be responsible for insuring that appropriate regulations (federal and state) are met in the conduct of research at WVU. The BSO will also conduct training sessions on various aspects of biosafety; aid researchers in developing protocols for the conduct of research involving biohazards; work with physical plant personnel to insure that laboratory facilities meet required standards; and conduct periodic inspections of laboratories to insure that they continue to meet the appropriate guidelines covering the research conducted therein.
