EurekAlert! is a comprehensive news server for up-to-date research in science, medicine, and engineering. This Web site was launched in May 1996 and is produced by the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS). Eurekalert! is a one-stop 24-hour electronic newsstand for anyone that wishes access to popular topics in the lay and scientific media. Material is posted from a variety of sources including universities, corporations, nonprofit organizations, newspapers, commercial magazines, and peer-reviewed journals. This site should be useful to microbiologists wanting to search a wide variety of sources for information pertinent to their interests and for those who wish to post material that may be viewed by others. The webmaster at AAAS reviews all submissions for suitability and has final say over content of submitted material; a nominal fee is charged for posting of articles. A powerful feature of this Web site is that the information is exceedingly current and is continually updated; items more than two weeks old are archived. Search mechanisms allow access to specific information, and many useful links are provided (numerous pages within this site are worth a bookmark). Material downloads easily and very quickly.
